Birding Abroad: Crimson-rumped Toucanet.
The Amazon is full of surprises. Not only in Suriname, but also in other countries in South-America. When I was birding in Ecuador I saw this Crimson-rumped Toucanet. It lives in the cloud rainforest of Mindo, Ecuador. I had to leave the lodge quite early as we had a long drive ahead. The piece of forest was on a private farm. The farm was near a hill and we had to climb a little before arriving at the feeding spot. All sorts of fruits were set out to feed the birds and this was one of them; the Crimson-rumped Toucanet. It is known that the Crimson-rumped Toucanet lives in the rainforest of Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela. Even though its plumage is overall green, you can still recognize this toucanet by its maroon black bill with a white line at the base. You may also like this other bird from South-America: This is for real! For 3 weeks I was working as a volunteer for Ocean Spirits on Grenada and only saw sun, sea and beach.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my experience working as a volunteer in the Tambopata Research Centre. In this article I tell you all about a typical day a volunteer has to 'encounter'. It isn't bad at all!
In the month May, 2015, I volunteered for nearly 3 weeks for the Tambopata Macaw project at the Tambopata Research Centre, Peru. The main reason was/is understanding the macaws and parrots of the Amazon. It was a remarkable journey!
Birdwatching in ….. Mindo, Ecuador. I took a 3 - day birding trip outside Kabalebo, Suriname. An unforgettable trip.
During my leave of absence I also seek the flora and fauna outside Kabalebo. In this journal I take a look back when I traveled to the Galapagos islands.
