A nutritious snack
This Common Squirrel Monkey just found a tasty snack for himself.
Common Squirrel Monkeys usually are seen eating leaves, Inga fruit, flowers or Maripa nuts. But they also have a wide variety to choose from when it comes to their food: leaves, fruits, nuts, flowers, insects, bird eggs, nestlings, lizards....
While I was following a group of Common Squirrel Monkeys one particular monkey was lucky to find a decent snack: a large caterpillar. Somehow he found this large snack hidden between the leaves.
This monkey was chewing and enjoying his snack. Caterpillars are full of protein and fat, this makes sure that this little fellow gets his energy and nutrition, quite important while trying to survive in the jungle.
