Even though it is not one of the best pictures, I finally managed to photograph the Barred Antshrike.
The Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus) is one of those birds that you rather hear than see. They are pretty territorial and they use the lower dense vegetation as their home base. For years I have heard the Barred Antshrike nearby the Inspiration Point. Quite often in the early mornings or in the afternoon, usually when it is so hot and sunny outside.
Sometimes the Barred Antshrike showed itself to the outside world but that only lasted seconds. So in the past I managed to take some blurry pictures. They can't sit still on one spot as they like to hop from one place to the other looking for some insects to devour.
The Barred Antshrike is recognizable by its 'prison outfit' (black and white bars) and its familiar sound. I managed to record his sound during one afternoon. Enjoy!
