Revealing their true colors: Chestnut-fronted Macaws. Chestnut-fronted Macaws are known as mini macaws and related to the Large Macaws (Scarlet, Red-and-Green and Blue-and-Yellow Macaws). But unlike their bigger relatives these mini macaws are a bit difficult to spot when foraging for food. But when in flight they reveal all these different colors: blue and red (not just only green). A while ago I met a group of Chestnut-fronted Macaws near the Inspiration point. In the first picture above you barely can see the Chestnut-fronted Macaw between the foliage, such a great camouflage, but when they are in flight they reveal all these marvelous colors (with the help of sunlight too) These mini macaws were just playing around in the tree but while being so playful they also gave me a glimpse of their (hidden) bright colors. Just before landing this macaw revealed all the colors they kept hidden under the green plumage: the red and blue.
