This is Lilith, Lotje's 5th child. Next ocelot's generation in plain view. After 5 years of observing Lotje, the resident ocelot, I am still surprised that she still is a dedicated mother. I knew that she already had a young at the start of this year, since Sasha wasn't welcome anymore in the neighborhood. Knowing Lotje, I had to have some patience before meeting her newborn. And here she is: Lilith. Well, it wasn't an official meeting. I just noticed them crossing the airstrip. Lotje was already gone in the bushes, but her young was hesitating. Yes, it is difficult to cross an open area during broad day light. I saw her right in front of the pier looking at her mother (out of sight). Here are some throwback pictures. These were taken with the trophy cam at the ocelot feeder on February 10, 2018. First time at the feeder. I guess she behaved well otherwise her mother wouldn't have allowed her to eat from this treat. Lilith was finishing the food while her mother was standing guard. A couple of times afterwards I met Lilith also at the feeder, but she was too shy to stay around so only her mother was eating while I was present. All the above pictures were taken at the pier. I had to zoom in with my camera 'cause Lilith had also noticed my presence. After I shot the last picture she immediately ran into the bushes. Still a shy wild cat.
Glad to know that the ocelot population is doing quite well in Kabalebo. In case you are wondering, below are Lotje's previous 'kids' that I've met too: Comments are closed.
