Sometimes Common Squirrel Monkeys can be very selective when choosing their food. On my way to the River cabin I noticed some movements in the dense vegetation. Common Squirrel Monkeys were foraging during their journey. In general they like fruits, flowers, insects and small reptiles. But sometimes they also like to taste some fresh young leaves, just to add to their diet. It was a large group when I met them. For several minutes I was looking left and right to watch this army passing by. As always they were quarreling, but that is something they always do. One particular monkey caught my attention. This Common Squirrel Monkey was first waiting patiently until the coast was clear to peacefully pick some fresh young leaves. The precision with his small hands and the intense look on his face says it all. Even though they are common monkeys seen quite often near the lodge or nearby, it is still fascinating to see how they behave. And of course, even with a full belly, you still need to be fully alert of your surroundings.
