An unexpected meeting with the Spectacled Caiman.
Spectacled Caimans (Caiman Crocodilus) are common residents of Kabalebo. They are often seen at the river edge. Most of the time you see just 1/3 of their body (mostly their head above the water) and usually young ones too. This time I met an adult at the pier.
I met this sample sunbathing at the pier. It was almost 2 meters long and just took its place onshore.
Spectacled Caimans are known as semi-aquatic predators. They feel right at home both in the river as on land. After a while of sunbathing and some well earned rest, this Spectacled Caiman walked back into the river as if it was never there.
