A look inside the Butterfly garden and lab.
Reserva Playa Tortuga also has a butterfly garden and lab, where you can closely witness how caterpillars become cocoons and how they transform into butterflies. Quite interesting to see this one too.
Here you see caterpillars in different stages of the owl butterfly. They were born in the garden so we transfer them to the lab.
After they turn into cocoons, they are set in the cocoon cage until they turn into butterflies. The moment they become butterflies they are transferred back into the garden. If you take a closer look at its wings you can also see that it is numbered (14).
Here you see the caterpillars of the Tiger-striped long wing. The spikes look dangerous but are harmless. The cocoons are also placed in the cocoon cage awaiting for development. Here you one of the Tiger-striped longwing just getting out of its cocoon.
This is the lab. A simple looking constructure, but effective.
The Butterfly garden seen from both the outside as the inside.
